Springfield, NJ – The American Council of Engineering Companies of New Jersey (ACECNJ) today made the announcement of its new President, Joseph A. Fiordaliso.

Fiordaliso brings over fourteen years of public and private sector government and policy experience to ACECNJ.  He has spent the last three years in private practice as a consultant and lobbyist based in Trenton and New York City.  He was approved unanimously by ACECNJ’s Executive Committee at its April Board meeting.

“Joe impressed the Executive Committee with his energy, enthusiasm, professionalism and desire to jump in with both feet to begin addressing the challenges facing the engineering profession in New Jersey,” said ACECNJ Chairman Michael Neglia.  “Joe’s combination of public and private sector experience was a huge selling point and we feel he’ll be a strong advocate for our members in Trenton and throughout New Jersey.”

Fiordaliso served as Chief of Staff to two New Jersey Transportation Commissioners.  He was closely involved with a number of key policy issues including renewal and replenishment of the State’s Transportation Trust Fund, a landmark statewide initiative to enhance pedestrian safety, establishment of the New Jersey Future in Transportation (NJFIT) initiative which links land use and transportation, and signature projects such as Access to the Region’s Core (ARC).  Prior to his service with the State of New Jersey, Fiordaliso spent six years in Washington working on federal policy issues in the United States Senate and House of Representatives.  For the past three years he has provided public policy, government affairs and strategic planning advice as a private consultant to clients in a range of industries.

Fiordaliso replaces Peter Allen, ACECNJ’s long-time President.  Allen is retiring after 32 years at the helm of the association.

“Peter was a strong advocate for the engineering industry for many years.  His service to our members is appreciated,” said ACECNJ’s Neglia.  “On behalf of all of our members companies, I sincerely thank Peter and wish him the best.”

While Fiordaliso’s official start date is Monday May 17, Allen will stay on board through June 30.  Neglia stated that he expects a smooth transition to the new leadership and believes that the overlap will allow the new President to hit the ground running July 1.

ACECNJ (www.acecnj.org) is the New Jersey chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), the voice of America’s engineering industry. Council members – numbering more than 5,300 firms throughout the country – are engaged in a wide range of engineering works that propel the nation’s economy, and enhance and safeguard America’s quality of life. These works allow Americans to drink clean water, enjoy a healthy life, take advantage of new technologies, and travel safely and efficiently. The Council’s mission is to contribute to America’s prosperity and welfare by advancing the business interests of member firms.

ACEC’s roots date back to 1909 when a loosely organized group of engineers in private practice established the American Institute of Consulting Engineers (AICE), the forerunner of ACEC. Today ACEC is a large federation of 51 state and regional councils representing the great breadth of America’s engineering industry. ACEC member firms employ more than hundreds of thousands of engineers, architects, land surveyors, scientists, and other specialists, responsible for more than $200 billion of private and public works annually. Member firms range in size from a single registered professional engineer to corporations employing thousands of professionals.
